Options Save Lives Blog
The C Three Foundation was created to help save the lives of alcoholics worldwide. We aim to educate doctors, alcoholics, family and friends of alcohol-dependent people about the most successful long term treatment for alcoholism: The Sinclair Method.
The C Three Foundation envisions a world where every person, regardless of ethnic, social or economic background, is given equal access to affordable, scientifically tested treatment options for alcohol use disorder.
The purpose of the C Three Foundation is to help save lives through education and awareness. In accordance with our motto, Options Save Lives, we believe there is no single path to this goal—success will require a multifaceted approach.
Our purpose in education is to diligently pursue and share relevant information to better assist members of our global community in making informed, responsible decisions about their personal alcohol use and possible treatment.
Addiction science—We are committed to the promotion of alcohol addiction treatment options, such as the Sinclair Method, that are based in sound scientific research. In a May 2014 study published in JAMA, which analyzed more than 120 previous clinical and scientific trials comprised of nearly 23,000 participants, 50 mg oral naltrexone was shown to be a far more effective treatment for alcohol use disorder than the more popular disulfiram, which must be combined with abstinence. Further, when 50 mg oral naltrexone is used in combination with alcohol to reduce heavy drinking, treatment outcomes are even better.
Current practices—We believe it is crucial to understand the current practices for treating alcohol use disorder in order to present the Sinclair Method as a scientifically tested alternative. Understanding why certain medical professionals currently believe abstinence-only treatment to be the only acceptable option enables us to identify and correct treatment myths in a non-threatening, appreciative manner based in the common goal of overcoming addiction to alcohol.
Policy and issues— We strive to keep informed of and share important law and policy information as well as trends that effect the alcohol industry and methods of treatment. We believe that it is important to understand the current political and social climate of both the alcohol and the treatment industries in order to direct our efforts and affect the most change.
For nearly a century, alcohol treatment has been dominated by the belief that a complete and permanent state of sobriety is the only possible way to help an ‘alcoholic.’ Science has shown this belief to be untrue, but many physicians and most of the general public are unaware of the advancements and breakthroughs in alcohol use disorder treatment.
The C Three Foundation seeks to elevate the public discourse surrounding responsible alcohol use and effective, lasting treatment for misuse and addiction.
The current medical, legal and social constructs of society are rooted in traditions that are often counterproductive to effective alcohol addiction treatment. The C Three Foundation is determined to identify and seek to change policies, practices, laws and social norms in popular culture that prevent successful alcohol addiction recovery.
